The holidays are rapidly approaching. Many of us are looking forward to the excitement of being with family and friends — of experiencing traditions that possibly have been handed down from generation to generation.
Others of us, however, are dreading the same holidays. Our loved ones are no longer with us, and we are not sure we can “handle” Thanksgiving or Christmas without them. We really do not feel like going to all of the events, having family and friends over for a meal, or even participating in the celebrations or traditions.
Family and friends do not always understand why we don’t want to be a part of it all. How DO we deal with the holidays when we are torn between what to do and what we don’t feel like doing?
Just remember to take care of yourself — eat healthily, get enough rest, take walks out in nature, and spend time in God’s word. Do only what is comfortable for you. Also, we, along with many others, are praying for you, especially through the holidays. God loves you and knows your loss. Grief is a journey, not a destination!
“He Heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalms 147:3
