Follow Us on Twitter

If you Tweet, now you can follow us on Twitter! Our username name is NBCofC

Twitter is growing in popularity right along with Facebook.  So, why should the church care?  Here are 11 reasons for NBCofC to Twitter:

1. Reach the unreachable–The greatest opportunity Twitter provides is in building a platform to reach the un-churched. More and more people are staying connected through social media and while this is not the primary means to reach people, it is one tool in the toolbox to help us connect with churched, unchurched and unreachable people.

2. We can connect to cell phones via text messaging.  So, any member with a cell phone would be connected.

3. Twitter is faster than email, easier than phone calls, and more manageable than group text.  You can notify people instantly because it’s a cell phone text (or at least can be) as opposed to email which people may not check regularly.  It’s especially helpful for urgent messages (“The youth group will be a little late getting back from the concert”) and last minute reminders.

4. Twitter can give visitors a personal insight into our ministry.  Non-church members can get a very good idea of what the people and ministry are like just from viewing the tweets.

5. We can include links in tweets such as links to more info, signup forms, or just a link to your church website.  This can improve responsiveness from congregants and increase traffic to the church website.

6. We can use twitter to develop relationships between staff and members as well as members and members.  While there are many reasons people may visit or join a church, relationships tend to be what keep members.  Twitter gives another way for members to develop more personal relationships with each other.  Twitter also gives a way for members to be more personally connected with the minister and other church staff.  This is especially good for larger congregations when the minister and staff don’t have enough time to show individual personal attention to all the church members in the meaningful way.

7. We can send sermon point reminders during the week so members keep the sermon message in mind.  Do the same for Bible studies, youth group messages. If a minister or n elder has something on their heart from a study and they believe the thought can be a blessing to those that are following us on Tweeter, we can quickly share those thoughts.

8. We can have multiple Twitter accounts so you have one for each ministry.  This allows communication with your members to be targeted so people are only receiving messages related to them.

9. Twitter is worldwide.  Anywhere people have their cell phone or internet access they can receive your church’s Tweets or post Tweets themselves.

10. Twitter is free and simple enough that most anyone can use it.

We must admit in spite of all this there are some that may say “we don’t need social media to preach Jesus. As long as we preach Jesus and Him crucified, love people, and be faithful we’ll reach our communities.”

You know what…they’re right. Ultimately it’s God that draws people to Himself. However we’re missing a HUGE advantage with the tools of social media (along with Twitter).

The Bible says:

“When He (Jesus) looked out over the crowds, His heart broke. So confused and aimless they were, like sheep with no shepherd. ‘What a huge harvest!’ He said to his disciples. ‘How few workers! On your knees and pray for harvest hands!’” [2]

There is a huge harvest and we think Twitter can give us the opportunity to reach that harvest.

DID YOU GET YOUR DIRECTORY

Did you get your directory yet?  We have one for you.  If you had photos made, you have a directory (check for one with your name on it).  If you didn’t have photos made, there’s still a directory for you.  We have plenty for everybody if we take one per household.  Some directories were accidentally taken by other families.  We are working on getting them back so they can go to the proper family.  On a side note, staff did not apply additional mustaches!

Automated External Defibrillator (AED) TRAINING

October 2, 2011 right after worship. It will be in the Fellowship Hall and will last about 15 minutes.

WE HAVE A DEFIBRULATOR ON THE WALL IN THE FOYER TO THE LEFT OF THE COFFEE AREA.  IT IS FOR EMERGENCY USE ONLY.  WE ARE IN NEED OF A NURSE/AND OR DOCTOR TO TRAIN SOME OF OUR MEMBERS HOW TO USE THIS DEFIBRULATOR.  IF YOU CAN HELP, PLEASE CALL THE OFFICE AT 625-3520.
