WHAT TO EXPECT IN COUNSELING
In the counseling or consultation process, individuals have an excellent opportunity to increase their personal awareness, and develop effective interpersonal communication skills.
The counseling process has different phases depending on the nature of the problem. In the beginning phase, the problem areas are explored and appropriate testing is completed. The information is organized into meaningful pattern which allows the client to form specific goals. As the counseling process continues, the therapist assists and guides the client or family in achieving their goals.
Appointments are made during regular office hours and the sessions last approximately 50 minutes. The number of weekly sessions depends on the client’s past experience and the nature of the problem.
ABOUT THE THERAPIST
Fran Watkins received her BSW from Kansas State University, MSW from the University of Iowa and Certification from Menninger’s Marriage and Family Institute, Topeka, Kansas.
Fran’s counseling experience is varied. She has worked extensively in the field of Substance Abuse, serving as the director of a treatment center in the Iowa Methodist Medical Center for several years. While she was there she planned and implemented programs specifically for chemical dependent adolescences as well as was in private practice.
Gods hand on Fran’s life has taken her across the country, giving her the opportunity to establish the Christian Family Services of Kansas where she served as director. Inc.
Fran has been in private practice, conducts seminars, retreats and continues to serve as a consultant. She works with individuals, families and groups in the area of service offered.
